jailbreak

Overview

A vehicle's primary weakness is that it can be disabled. This process is called vehicle disabling, but there are multiple different ways that vehicle disabling can occur. Tire popping is used against most land vehicles, and shooting aerial vehicles are used against aerial vehicles; these are different methods of doing such. Disabling requires non-explosive weapons, otherwise, the attempted disabling will have no effect. The May 2021 update introduced PIT maneuvers, which allows police to disable criminal vehicles without exiting their own vehicle.

Tire popping is a feature in Jailbreak. To pop a vehicle's tires, you need to shoot with a gun of your choice (excludes explosives such as Bombs) anywhere at a player's vehicle, excluding the windows. When one shoots at the windows of a vehicle, they will only damage the player inside, and not pop the vehicle's tires. Each vehicle has a certain amount of health and when depleted, the tires will then be popped for a couple of seconds before they regenerate. Popping tires prevents a vehicle from accelerating via the forward input. Tire popping is mainly used by players to prevent others from driving away. The aerial counterpart to tire popping is shooting down aerial vehicles.

Road Spikes can be used to do the same, however, only Police have access to them. Road Spikes can be placed down manually by left-clicking when the Spike is equipped, walking a bit to drag the spike until it is long enough for the player, and then clicking again to place it down.

Trivia

  • Tire popping was added alongside the Dune Buggy and the Donut Shop.
  • Many people complain that tire popping is too overpowered, but asimo3089 claims that it just slows down a vehicle, not forcing a vehicle to a complete stop instantly.
  • When asimo3089 and badcc added tire popping, it's seldom had an effect.
  • The Volts tires are actually able to be popped, even though there are no tires on the vehicle. This can be hard to pull off, though, due to the Volt Bike's incredible speed, and the small hitbox. Also, the bike may not slow down to as slow as other vehicles would, if it is going fast, due to momentum.
  • When tire popping was added, the Model 3 would glitch out across the map and possibly fly off the map when its tires were popped.
    • This was fixed in a later update.
  • When a vehicle's tires are popped, the vehicle will make a moderately loud popping noise. This noise is identical to the sound effect that plays after collecting a new item from a Safe, and the fireworks that played after the 2B Visits Update Live Event and the 3 Years Anniversary Update.
  • Tire popping will not function if there is no one driving the car.
  • Tire popping does not make a hole in the tires, rather it just makes the tires disappear.
  • A shotgun is recommended for this, as it has just enough bullets in one round to pop tires quickly and easily.
  • You can remove the rims on any ground vehicle by using the Mobile Garage while the tires are popped.
  • There is a glitch where if you enter your popped vehicle two times, the tires will automatically reappear.
  • Tire popping is effective to both teams as cops can pop tires to slow down criminals and criminals can pop cop tires to avoid arrest.
  • The Cargo Ship turrets are capable of popping the tires of land vehicles.
  • Currently there are three Contracts related on Tire Popping.
    • One being using a gun to pop the tires.
    • Another one being using the spikes.
    • And another one being PIT Maneuver different criminals.

Aerial Vehicle Shooting is similar to tire popping but instead of shooting a car's tires, players shoot at aerial vehicless that are flying. To shoot down an aerial vehicle, equip any weapon and shoot anywhere on the aerial vehicle. The amount of shots it takes to take down an aerial vehicle depends on how much health the vehicle has. Once the health bar is depleted, the aerial vehicle will fall out of the sky, smoke and a beeping sound will be heard for a couple of seconds. After a couple of seconds, the aerial vehicle will repair, and players can continue flying. This method is used by cops to capture flying criminal(s).

Trivia

  • When an aerial vehicle is shot down, dark gray particles that try to imitate smoke will fly through the air and the aerial vehicle will make a "beeping" sound. This process will last only a few seconds. Unlike tire popping, players can still slowly move an aerial vehicle but it can not hover off of the ground.
  • The sound of an aerial vehicle shot down its similar to the sound of one in another Roblox game called "Redwood Prison", but the beep occurs every 0,5 seconds in Jailbreak for a while after an aerial vehicle has been shot down, while in Redwood Prison, the beep occurs much more often after the vehicle is shot down, plus that the beeps won't stop either.
  • If a player is shot down, they are encouraged to quickly hop out of the vehicle and get back in as they will be able to fly away. However, they won't be able to use the rope and smoke particles will stay, following the player until the timer finishes. The same applies to tire popping as a player merely needs to exit and enter the vehicle twice to start the car up again.
  • The Jet and the Stunt are the only aerial vehicles that cannot be shot down, it's unknown if this is intentional or not. You can avoid being auto arrested by flying in one or the other.
    • This was fixed in update.
  • Before the June 2020 Cargo Ship Update, rockets could not disable or burst the tire of a vehicle.
  • There was a glitch where if a helicopter is shot down it will bounce high into the air.
  • In the Balancing Update, it takes a shorter amount of time to disable a helicopter while it takes longer for the health to regenerate.
    • Also, players have less control when shot down.

PIT (Pursuit intervention technique) Maneuvers are a type of vehicle disabling added in the May 2021 Update. To perform a PIT maneuver, a police officer in a land vehicle must ram into a criminal's vehicle at speed; this will temporarily disable the criminal's vehicle, allowing police officers to get out and arrest them. PIT maneuvers are a way of shortening car chases, as before its introduction, it would be difficult for a police officer to stop a criminal vehicle, as they would have to get out of their vehicle to shoot out the criminal vehicle's tires, which would lengthen chases. When a PIT maneuver is made, sparks will appear between the contact point of the police and criminal vehicle, the criminal vehicle's tires will be popped, and a popping noise will play. PIT maneuvers disable a criminal's vehicle for a fairly short amount of time, being around 1 second, so police must be quick after the PIT maneuver.

Trivia

  • PIT maneuvers will appear as if they were performed quite a distance away from the vehicle itself. This is due to PING and how long it takes for the PIT maneuver to be shown to the player it was used against.
  • An unintended feature of PIT maneuvers is that criminals can also perform a PIT maneuver, but to do so, they must perform the following steps.
    • Become a police officer and get a vehicle. Sit in the driver's seat, drive it to where you want it, and switch to the Prisoner team. Taking a vehicle previously used by a police vehicle works as well.
      • Make sure the vehicle can have sirens equipped, as a vehicle without sirens cannot perform PIT maneuvers.
    • Get into the previously police-used vehicle, and you will be able to ram into police-occupied vehicles and criminal vehicles without sirens equipped.
  • Even though the SUV and the Interrogator are the only vehicles with bull bars, any car can perform a pit.
  • For an unknown reason, pit maneuvers last longer on fast vehicles like the Concept and shorter on slow vehicles such as the Camaro. This is noticeable as it is much harder to pit and successfully eject a player from a Camaro than it is to do the same with a La Matador
  • The Patrol, Dirtbike, Drone and the Volt cannot use the pit maneuver.
